To top off a record week of embarrassment for the Tories, it has now been exposed that the Conservative party failed to stay in the required election budget.
These apparent “administrative errors” have been penalised with a hefty £70,000 fine however this is far from un- called for, realistically it is quite lenient as the Electoral commissioner stated that “there is a realistic prospect that the money gave the party an advantage” which obviously means they had an unfair advantage.
In addition to this the fines and the spending don’t add up; it has been revealed that the party were missing payments worth at least £104,765.
Also payments up to £118,124 were either not reported to the commission or were incorrectly reported by the party so although it is a record party fine it seems like a light escape for the Tories.
Having said further investigation is now happening as The Metropolitan police looking at evidence to see if these supposed mistakes were deliberate. So these charges could not be the last.
