Our Background

The Zone

Liz Davies comes from a banking background and has worked as a Training Development Officer with young people and has also undertaken voluntary youth work. Gail Stones has a careers information background working with young people and has been involved with community family learning. Tracey previously worked for Sir Henry Cooper at their specialist off-site centre, working with students across both key stages and with a range of emotional and behavioural problems

What is our role?

One of our roles is to support Year 10/11 pupils who may be experiencing difficulties coping with their school work. We work in The Zone, which is situated at the front of the school and pupils can also visit us to get information on health, personal issues and school. We operate on an appointment system for mentoring and keep times to a minimum to avoid pupils missing valuable class time. Most pupils are referred by staff but we will consider request from pupils.

KS3 students are also supported in helping them reach their academic targets in topics they are not confident in. Pupils are mainly referred to a mentor by their teaching staff or Head of Year and are likewise seen on an appointment system.

As well as a mentoring role, we also organise and co-ordinate the work experience programme within the school. For more information on work experience click here. We have close links with connexions who are also based in The Zone and we have a variety of reference materials on careers. We also provide pupils with advice on completing CVs and application forms for employment post 16.
