Health & Social Care

Pupils are taught Health and Social care at KS4 as either a single or double option subject.

Facilities

Classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and we also have access to computer rooms with individual computers for each student. We also have access to a wide range of DVDs and we arrange visits from local services to enrich the subject knowledge of the students.

Courses

This course is taught as an option subject in years 10 & 11. Pupils have 10 lessons per fortnight and the course is worth 2 GCSEs. 60% of the final grade is evidence by a portfolio of coursework. The course covers 4 units:

  • Understanding Personal Development and Relationships
  • Exploring Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision
  • Promoting Health and Wellbeing
  • Health, Social Care and Early Years in Practice
Extra-curricular

The department runs regular catchup sessions for students for coursework after school.
