Media Studies

The Media Department at Malet Lambert teaches Media and Communications as an optional subject to KS4 students. It is a small department under the auspices of the English Department and although the two subjects do have similarities, Media is an independent subject which offers a wide range of skills to individual students who may want to pursue a career in the Media industry.

Facilities

There is one room dedicated to the teaching of Media and Communications. The Department has exclusive access to ten laptop computers, numerous still cameras and camcorders as well as the latest software in order to produce media texts of a near-professional standard

Courses

Students at KS4 study the Edexcel BTEC Extended Certificate in Media Studies. Throughout the two year course students attend five lessons per fortnight when they will receive tuition in the theories of media production and will, as individuals and in groups, produce numerous media texts for their coursework folder. As a course focused on the practical aspects of media students are not required to sit an examination.

Extra-curricular

The department offers extra-curricular activities to enrich the media experience such as trips to Media based facilities such as the Bradford Museum of Film.
