Music

The music department is situated in the East yard of the school. The department encourages all pupils to enjoy music and many former students have gone on to make a career in music, either teaching, performing or in the record producing industry. Many pupils use the department's facilities at lunchtime and after school for their own music making.

Facilities

There are 2 dedicated music classrooms plus a keyboard area and 2 instrumental teaching rooms. Classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, computers and keyboards

Courses

The music department teaches music to all pupils in Year 7 & 8 through 2 lessons per fortnight. In Year 9, pupils in the Yellow and green populations continue to receive 2 lessons per fortnight while Red students can choose between expressive Arts GCSE and Humanities GCSE. Those choosing expressive arts may select music in continuation with either Art or Drama. At KS4, music may be selected as an option subject to GCSE level.

Extra-curricular

These are a vital part of Music education at the school. There is a Christmas concert each year and various groups, including the Choir, Woodwind ensemble and percussion ensemble, contribute to this event. In addition, the school puts on a musical production each year. Next year's production will be the 'Little Shop of Horrors'. In the spring or summer term we also put on a concert of music, drama and dance.
