Your Learning Co-ordinatorLearning Co-ordinators are there to give support and advice to form tutors, students, parents and liaise with external agencies when required to manage the year group as a whole. They also offer support to individual students who need help to make the most out of their time at Malet. They have an overall view of the year group as a whole and run assemblies, hand out awards and visit individual tutor groups in the mornings. We also have a team of Learning Mentors who are there to help you overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve your full potential. They can offer you support and advice whatever your problem. Miss Kerry Palmer is the Learning Co-ordinator for year 7. She can be contacted by e-mail or by telephone on 01482 374211 Your Form TutorOn entry to the school each pupil is placed in a form group with a form tutor. Your form tutor takes an active role in your progress at school, encouraging and supporting you as required, and talking to you and your parents to make sure you do the best you can while studying at Malet. Your form tutor is there to help you with any problems or issues you have so if you need someone to talk to, they will be there for you. Uniform PolicyFrom September, it is our expectation that all pupils will wear the correct school uniform as follows:
Pullovers are optional, however, should students wish to wear a pullover it must have a school badge. For students in Years 7, 8 and 9 the school pullover is grey; for those in Years 10 and 11 the school pullover is black. EquipmentYou will need the following equipment: a pen, a pencil and a ruler. You will also need to carry your school planner with you that you will be given at the start of the year. Pupils are also expected to bring the correct PE equipment to PE lessons. The School DayThe school day starts at 8.40 am and ends officially at 3.10 pm, although many children stay voluntarily beyond that time to engage in extra-curricular activities. You will have 25 hours of teaching per week. The day is sub-divided as follows: 08.40 - Registration Catering FacilitiesThe school catering facilities work on a cashless swipe-card system since September 2012. You can find out more about it by reading the Cashless Catering guide. You can also view the 2012 dinner menu here. SportsThe school caters for traditional team games, both within the PE curriculum and in extra-curricular activities. The main team games are football, rugby league and cricket for boys, netball, rounders and football for girls. In addition to these team activities we have offered badminton, trampolining, basketball, athletics and cross-country running and dance. In most of these sports we compete against other schools and take part in regional and national competitions. The school is very successful in these competitions. The school has a sports complex consisting of a sports hall, gymnasium and classroom teaching area. We are lucky to have extensive playing fields, and a purpose-built, floodlit area for netball and hockey. These facilities are heavily used, both by the school and the local community. All our PE staff are qualified to teach the subject and, between them, have coaching qualifications in football, rugby union, rugby league, hockey, basketball, netball, trampolining, dance, athletics and badminton. To find out more about sport at Malet, check the PE subject page.
