Ripon Visit - March 2013

On the 20th March 2013 Y9 History pupils studying for a GCSE course took part in a visit to Ripon. During the trip they visited three places linked to modern and historical crime and punishment. Firstly they followed a trail around a former prison which had been converted into a police station. This was followed by the opportunity to visit a workhouse and take part in a role play to decide who would be allowed into the workhouse! After lunch the visit concluded with a trip to the old law courts where pupils re-enact an old court case about the theft of a horse and cart and a modern case of a theft of an ipod.

Our Future Magazine - March 2013

This magazine has been written wholly by Year 7 students at Malet Lambert. The content actually took them three hours, but they were only able to produce this work because of the dedication of their teachers, parents, carers, peers and friends, and because of their experiences in the many years since they were born. The chaps from Engaging Education helped a little too, by providing guidance during the different projects that were combined to make this magazine.

A special ‘thank you’ must go to Stephen Logan, Robert Black, Charles Cracknell, The John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank and the staff at Malet Lambert High School, for without their support; the project would not have come to fruition. Download a copy here: Our Future March 2013 Issue

National Careers Week - 4th – 8th March 2013

Celebrating the very best of careers guidance and opportunities, National Careers Week (NCW) is a celebration of careers guidance across the UK. The aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people leaving education.

At Malet Lambert School we aim to help all students fulfil their potential and experience success through an educational environment, which responds to individual need and stimulates and challenges each and every student. The processes of informing, advising and guiding students are accorded a high priority within our school, and are seen as crucial in preparing students to make decisions regarding the opportunities and challenges of adult and working life. We have a number of activities organised in school for this week focusing on careers, employability and enterprise. Find out more about Enterprise@Malet here.

Time Capsule - December 2012

On the afternoon of Friday 7th December 2012 a special event took place at Malet Lambert School to mark the opening of the new school building. The heritage of the school and its hopes for the future were marked by the burial of a time capsule in the school grounds. The time capsule was put together by staff and pupils at Malet Lambert School who were joined by governors, local councillors and representatives from Sewells to mark the occasion with a tour of the school and the burial of the capsule. Another special guest was David Malet Lambert, a descendant of Joseph Malet Lambert who the school is named after who has also spent time in the History department talking to pupils about the history of the school.

The time capsule included work done by current Year 7 pupils, letters from present pupils to future Malet Lambert School pupils, a school tie and badge, plans and photos of the old and new building and a message from Mrs Disbrey to the future school. The time capsule is due to be opened in December 2042 and we look forward to the future successes the next 30 years will bring for Malet Lambert School.

  • Challenge stereotypical views about people who take STEM subjects and encourage gender equality
  • Highlight the huge range of careers and opportunities within STEM now and in the future

Chinese New Year - 3rd February 2011

The school celebrated Chinese New Year on 3rd February in style! Throughout the week, our school was decorated to reflect the celebration and in particular the fact we were beginning the Year of the Rabbit. The day began with Chinese exercises for Year 7 in the school yard, which they thoroughly enjoyed. All tutors had a fortune cookie, which they opened and read out to their tutor groups – we’re not sure how many predictions have come true so far! During this week our assemblies showcased a short drama presentation which culminated in a dragon dance – the dragon was made by our very own art department! Pupils also had the opportunity to experience Chinese cookery and silk painting in technology lessons, which proved to be extremely popular. The canteen had a Chinese theme to their lunch time menu with Chinese music playing in the background, but some of our year 7 and year 10 pupils experienced the ‘real thing’ by visiting Mr Chu’s for a lunch time banquet, along with some children in year 6 from our partner primary school Westcott. Happy New Year to everyone!
