The EU referendum is drawing closer every day and the people of Britain lie in confusion as to what is best for our future.
I asked for the opinion of some teachers at my school and one stated “I think people will vote to stay in because of fear of the unknown, people don’t know what it will be like out of the EU” she also agreed that politicians don’t give a clear and reliable picture of life away from Europe's grasp.
It’s clear that immigration is a huge factor for people to consider when they make the decision, however she claimed “It’s not just about immigration, it’s about the economy and jobs as well”.
Another teacher who I interviewed was worried that if we did fall into independence we would lose a lot of valuable workers, like those who work for the NHS or in schools as teachers. Very important people who make Britain work efficiently. Also she was disturbed at the fact that we could lose precious human rights such as holiday and sickness pay. Having said that, she likes the idea of been in charge and maintaining our own country without needing Europe’s consent. Adding after that “Whether we stay in or out of Europe immigration needs to be sorted” I asked her to expand on that and she carried on saying “we are in a crisis, it is obvious that we need to be stricter but as humans it is our duty to provide help for those who need it”
Some people say that for me this referendum isn’t important purely because I can’t vote , this referendum is crucial for my and everyone my age’s future , make your voice heard because it may persuade people to vote the way you want them to. This is huge for Britain and everyone within it.
I spoke to a final teacher who said “British people are been left in the dark without guidance and without assurance, the government are doing an embarrassing job of informing us about what to expect outside of the EU , if the people running our country don’t know how can I make my mind up” she later carried on to say “Plenty of people won’t vote because they don’t know where it will go whether it’s the right choice or not .
From the people who I questioned I get the feeling that the majority of people in Britain just don’t know what is best for them and for the country. People want to stay in because of fear of our country falling apart when parted from Europe. Some take a more ambitious approach weighing up the positives and negatives of both sides of the war. Overall, saying IN or OUT seems a tough thing to do which seems to be because of the lack of clear information from the government. How will Britain survive? Only time will give us the answer.
