Year 10 students taking GCSE Food Technology enjoyed a trip to Frankie and Benny’s on Kingswood yesterday, to learn about the food industry.
To kick off the trip, students were served breakfast and drinks, with restaurant staff providing an excellent example of how to serve customers correctly.
After a variety of full english breakfasts, sausage and egg muffins, and one berry pancake stack, students sat back to listen to the restaurant manager, Graham, talk about running a chain restaurant, including health and safety procedures, choosing a menu and profit margins.
Food Technology teacher Mrs Field commented, “Students have gained a lot from today, particularly being able to ask Graham questions about the restaurant business and how they choose what to put on their menu. It was also great for them to be able to compare our cooking techniques in classroom kitchens with those in a restaurant - especially relating to food hygiene and safety.
“The class thoroughly enjoyed the trip, and are already planning to become repeat customers!"
