Year 7 girls’ rugby team beat two out of three schools, in their pool, to secure their semi-final place at the Champion Schools Competition.
The competition was held at the Crosfields pitches in Warrington, and was organised by the Rugby Football League.
There were seven other schools, from different parts of the country, including – Castleford Academy, Newminster, West Lakes Academy, Deanery, St Peters, Harris Academy Crystal Palace and Longdean.
Malet played three games in their box, winning two and drawing one. This secured their place in the semi-finals. They continued to beat West Lakes Academy 12-8, allowing them to continue to the finals at Wembley.
To get the team to Wembley will require funding, however planning has already begun and there are already several different fund raising ideas, such as; bag packing and raffles. They are also looking for local sponsors.
Coach and teacher, Ms Hodgson, said, “The team work was brilliant, the best I’ve ever seen them play.
“If they play like they played in the qualifiers, they’ve got a good chance of winning it.”
