Cookery Club students have taken biscuit making to the next level – by creating a model house out of gingerbread.
Cookery club leader Miss Armstrong made a batch of gingerbread up and baked it ready for the students to use.
They were then challenged to create a gingerbread house, using the technology department’s laser cutter to create perfect pieces.
Mrs Armstrong said, “It took the pupils two lunchtimes to cut the shapes with the help of a technician, construct it and decorate it. I think it looks great – not unlike something you’d see on the Great British Bake Off!
“The laser cutter really helps make it look more professional. We’re hoping this technique is something we would be able to incorporate into future food technology lessons, so this was a good dry run.”
The Cookery Club will now be collecting recipes and ideas to work on their next project – the club’s Chinese New Year party, to be held on 31st January.
After being unsure as to what to do with the gingerbread house once it was completed, the Cookery Club decided to get involved with the mug-swapping project currently underway in two tutor groups (read more here).
Jack Drury, Kai Connell and Harvey Webster from 7CSH seized the opportunity to swap their plain white, ceramic mug for a handmade gingerbread house.
In doing this, they have successfully upgraded their mug to a house – of sorts!
They are now in a strong position to upgrade their swap further to something of a higher value, ready to show at Y8 Parent’s Evening in February.
