On the 18th of June, Year 11 students carried on the Malet Lambert tradition of having an ‘egg and flour fight’, but this time it was a little different. We decided to use our school field for a sponsored battle for the charity ‘Life for a Kid.’ By paying just £1 each, our Year 11 students were provided with large amounts of egg and flour and were free to fight away, all for a good cause.
It was clear that the departing students had an amazing last day of their secondary school life and were very pleased that the tradition has now been transformed into something that helps charities.
Exactly £165 was raised for the charity and we couldn’t be more pleased. Dean Hoggard from ‘Life for a Kid’ came into Malet Lambert on the 7th of July to receive the raised money and to explain how it will be used.
“It’s fantastic really, kids raising money for kids and we’ll make sure that the money goes to changing a child’s life. The money raised can go towards life changing equipment, at the moment there’s a little girl who lives locally and is looking for a new wheelchair and some of the money raised will be used to help her.
"Some of the kids are hoping for some new sensory equipment which uses things like lights to help them out with daily activities. We’re currently building one of these sensory rooms at the other side of Hull at the minute.”
When asked why he chose this charity, the teacher that had the idea for the sponsored egg and flour event Mr Chapman replied with,
“To be truthful, a friend of mine has been raising money for the charity and I became aware that this charity is a local one to help kids. I wanted to do something positive for the community in terms of the egg and flour which is a tradition that we have at Malet. And one of the positive things we’ve got out of it is being able to raise some money for the charity.”
We are extremely proud of our achievement and hope to keep helping amazing charities such as ‘Life for a Kid’ in the future.
