Written by Ben Cowham, Year 10 work experience
This week Year 10s are doing their work experience in and around Hull.
They will be experiencing different workplaces and different jobs so they can try to obtain the skill sets which are needed for later life.
This will hopefully teach them what they should and shouldn't do at work, how they should behave and give an insight to the job which they have chosen for their work experience.
We believe that this would be useful and benificial to the Year 10 students as this will help them in their search for a career when they leave school, and what choices they should make to achieve these aspirations.
We have been very fortunate in the past of being offered placements with some of Hull’s premier companies and our pupils are well regarded by the business community.
We would also like to mention that pupils on work experience will most likely be working different hours from those of school and will be expected to adhere to company rules, which will also be benefical to them, as they can learn what it feels like to work in a formal workplace.
These workplaces can vary from a bank to a hairdressers, so the students have a variety of workplaces they can choose from.
For example, I am currently in the marketing department, and during my work experience I shall be reporting on the ongoing equality activities, which Year 10 students are currently doing. this will contain marketing campaigns adverts and news stories they have made, and then on Friday, Karl Turner MP will be visiting the school to judge the equality projects.
I will also be at the trip on Thursday, where at the KC Stadium, Teen Tech shall be taking place.
Also on Wednesday, the sports summer fayre for Dove House Hospice will take place, and the GB volleyball captain, Ben Pipes, will be attending the fayre.
Whilst I am on work experience, I will be using different skills to complete the tasks which I am faced with, for example I will be using a range of IT skills and also lots of different marketing skills.
Altogether, I believe that this will be a wonderful opportunity to make the skills needed to venture into the world of work.
